Interlaken – and the long-awaited trip to the mountains!

from Bern

The small village, formerly belonging to a monastery, was destined to become the main city of development of Swiss tourism. It was a place where people came with one main goal: to conquer the mountains. All travelers chose their way according to their financial and physical capabilities. Some with the maximum comfort of riding on the backs of mules and with guides. Others walked through perpetual snow and icy winds. But at the end of the journey, all remained for the rest of their lives in love with the special beauty of the Alps.

Interlaken is still the start of various routes to the mountains. There are also many ways to reach the alpine peaks, glaciers or valleys. Cable car rides, the highest mountain railroad cars – choose what suits you best and… we’re ready to go! To conquer the mountain peaks!

In addition to the city tour

To the north of the center of Interlaken is the cable car station Harder. From the observation deck you have a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding white peaks of the Alps. In the restaurant, located in a beautiful building in the style of an Alpine chalet, folklore evenings with music and dancing take place in the main summer season.

Bernese Oberland Region

This region has many different route options for those who want to reach the peaks of the mountains, as well as many amazing natural attractions. My advice is to plan a whole day to try to see as much as possible without rushing anywhere.

Add this trip to your To Do List. The journey to the plateau near the Jungfrau summit is an unforgettable experience in any weather.

The most famous directions.

Kleine Scheidegg panorama of the most famous mountain peaks

To the small station, we are taken by train departing from Interlaken. Kleine Scheidegg is just a few alpine chalets in front of the majestic wall of Mount Eiger. In the neat flowerbeds of the Botanical Alpine Garden next to the station, you can see various plants brought here by specialists from different regions of Switzerland. Right from the station platform starts hiking trails of varying difficulty. Wherever you go, the best reward for your physical effort will be the changing views of the region’s three famous snowy peaks – Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The Lauterbrunnen Valley – snowy peaks and waterfalls.

Staubbach and Trummelbach waterfalls

*Only during the summer season

Ready to hit the trail of Switzerland’s tourism pioneers ? Please, don’t forget your hooded jacket to protect you from millions of tiny splashes. Every drop of water contains melted snowflakes from the peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

We take the train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, the main town of the valley of the same name. Right from the main street you can see one of the highest waterfalls in Switzerland. After an easy hike (about 40 minutes) or by postal bus we will go to the entrance to the Trümmelbach waterfall. Inside the rocks, collecting water from melting glaciers from the highest peaks of the Jungfrau region, a powerful stream (more than 20 thousand liters per second), rushes into the valley. The movement of water over the millennia, formed amazing funnels, ledges and troughs, which can be viewed from comfortable and stable bridges. The mesmerizing movement of the water mass is fascinating. Seconds and minutes spent in contemplation disappear into eternity as instantly as each drop of the Trümmelbacher.

Station on top of the Schilthorn mountain

From Lauterbrunnen you can take the postal bus to the cable car station. A short stop is worth making in Mürren. The restaurants in this famous ski resort serve local specialties. The view of the mountain peaks will be a great addition to the lunch. One more part of the journey and we’re at the top. The pavilion of the restaurant Piz Gloria, which completes a turn around the axis, offers an exceptional opportunity to admire the panorama of the Alps. In a small cinema hall the most impressive episodes of the James Bond film are shown. The dizzying skiing race was filmed on the same snow-white slopes that we had just admired from the outdoor area.

Grindelwald region

The small town has two stations for those who want to go to Jungfraujoch plateau on the famous historic route of the cogged railroad. Those who like to be active in the summer use the direction First.

Our walk through the city can begin in the park near Schadau Castle. Later, we cross the covered bridge to the embankment of the river Are, and then climb the wooden stairs to the castle of the 12th century. From the high walls we will have a beautiful view of the Alpine peaks and Lake Thun.

Boat trip Interlaken-Breinz

Great trip for those who want to see the famous Giessbach waterfall, and wooden houses in the traditional Alpine chalet style and the Alpine panorama. It would be great if you have enough time for a walking tour in Brienz. In this small village there are several workshops where they make beautiful wooden sculptures and music boxes.

The ascent from Brienz to the top of Mount Rothorn in the carriages following the authentic historical steam locomotive.

Meiringen Valley

*Excursions only in the summer season.

Meiringen is a valley with a view of the Wilehorn and Wellhorn peaks and glaciers. It was here at the famous Reichenbach Falls* that the decisive battle between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty took place. Next to the Victoria Hotel, where Arthur Connan Doyle placed his characters and where the writer himself actually stayed, there’s a museum of the famous detective and his bronze sculpture. * Historic funicular cabins (only in the summer season) take everyone to the observation deck above the falls.

Aare Gorge

*only in the summer season

Water grinds stone and even mountains yield to its power. During many millennia the high steep walls of the gorge were deepened by the fast flow of the river Are. Along comfortable wooden footbridges we pass observing whirlpools and rolls of transparent water mass. Once again, amazed by the power of the elements, we will remember the work of those who built galleries and passages in the stone with one purpose – to show the guests of the region the amazing beauty of nature.

Ballenberg Open Air Museum

*only in the summer season

In a couple of hours we take a trip all over Switzerland!

More than 100 wooden houses and 250 farmhouses from various regions were delivered, then carefully assembled piece by piece and set up in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. Around every corner of the trail is another amazingly designed building with neat vegetable gardens and flower beds. Cows, horses and goats roam the lawns. To complete the idea of life of the Swiss peasants, you can observe the craftsmen creating large baskets and boxes, the famous cheese and colored pottery. In a room where antique clock ticks loudly, women in national costumes deftly operate a loom, and in another house, a woodcarver works. If you get tired or hungry, a small restaurant offers national dishes, and a special store sells sausages, bread, and honey marked “from Ballenberg. As you can guess, the taste of all these delicacies is amazing.
